SNE 4.0 helps site owners make big margins, but only if they have the right products to offer their network.
Today, we received a great question into our support desk about making margins from high ticket products. The question below is in light of promoting products using SNE 4.0. This dialogue is a great example of some of challenging questions that our clients often have while identifying their niche.
Q: Hey Guys…
Well, I have a few niches but one that has been popular with me the last few
years is the series on TV “True Blood”
I was thinking of having a really cool and interactive site for fans and I
really liked the video option for webcams in the social community.
The domain name would be “truebloodsfansite.com” which by the way is totally available.
I have some ideas on how to monetize this what do you think???
- A: Hey Lori,I like this idea, as it is a different one, but I think that you will have more success if you decide to monetize something with some more substance. A TV show is one of those things that has fans, but not a whole lot to sell to them besides advertising. We like to see products that have some bigger margins, but this is only my opinion. At the end of the day, it’s up to you. What else are you thinking about targeting?Tyler English

- Q: Hi TylerI like your opinion, what exactly do you mean by products that have some biggermargins? Can you give me an example as you said all I could sell is advertising?
I was thinking my audience for “True Blood” majority would be 20-50 and their
interests would be many, with most searches from USA and Norway and Sweden.
_____________________________________________
This could definitely be a great niche and hub for TV show watchers who like the show TrueBlood. Driving traffic there and gathering a list of subscribers is awesome, but what will the goal be after those subscribers are there. Lori is on track, but has a tough question. She wants a niche that she can capitalize on, but doesn’t know whether or not she can cater to them with excellence. In Lori’s defense, I love the fact that her target market is so defined (due to the TV show, Trueblood’s audience), but as I mentioned to her, we prefer to see a niche in which you can sell high ticket items.
When I mentioned that advertising is one of the only potential revenue streams, I was referring to the fact that this network is about a TV show, and there may or may not be a lot of items to sell back to the users involved. Utilizing SNE’s ad space is great, but what other ways can you make money from a social site where your target market is not coming there to buy something? This is a common question and one that we recommend thinking about. What are some other ways that you can find out more about your market? What are some other things that Trueblood enthusiasts are into? Do they want iPods, do they want big screen TVs? I bet so… These are high ticket items that you can promote and advertise in your site.
The network idea is great, because Trueblood is a popular show, and you know that your soon-to-be users will have something in common, but what is it? Luckily SNE 4.0 can remedy this with customizable profile questions… It is important to ask the right questions and collect valuable data about your network and it’s inhabitants. The ultimate question is “what big ticket items can I then cater to this network in which I am providing great value and making a large margin.
For example, what if you find that all of your network members like to go on cruises, and nice vacations…Well, at this point maybe it is time to sign up and promote Carnival Cruise Lines. You can become an affiliate and make commissions and you now know that your subscribers are interested in this offer. It is high ticket and you can make a nice margin off of vacation packages.
Another example of a network that pushes for big margins and commissions is an auto review site. Say you decide to build an Social Network Empire 4.0 site that helps prospective car buyers decide what car to get, then you offer great deals and direct your traffic towards your neighborhood car dealer. Sign up to be an affiliate, or make a joint venture, and boom, you are now making 10% on a $30,000 car. That’s $3,000 all because you wrote a review and then made a sale for a large company!
Hopefully you see where I am going with this… It takes some thought to make big money, but it’s simple once you get the right offers to cater to your list of people. You know that these people are targeted and coming to your site for a particular purpose, and so it is extremely important to make your profile questions legit and collect as much data as possible. Over time, you will learn more and more about what your network’s users are looking for, and then BOOM, you can give it to them.
