The holidays are here and online sales continue to grow. The IBM 2012 Holiday Benchmark Report, which tracks e-commerce transactions, found that Cyber Monday saw a 30% growth in online sales over Cyber Monday in 2011. That’s huge!
They also found that on Cyber Monday more than 18 percent of consumers used a mobile device to visit a retailer’s site, an increase of more than 70 percent over 2011. Mobile sales reached close to 13 percent, an increase of more than 96 percent over 2011. This tells us that the mobile market continues to rapidly grow (you already knew that though).
IBM also found that online sales on Thanksgiving grew by 17.4 percent followed by Black Friday where sales increased 20.7 percent over last year.
They found that Black Friday Mobile purchases shot up with 24 percent of consumers using a mobile device to visit a retailer’s site, up from 14.3 percent in 2011. Mobile sales exceeded 16 percent, up from 9.8 percent in 2011.
We at Daily Deal Builder believe this tells us that the deal industry, and eCommerce as a whole, will cause Santa Clause to continue to deliver presents to your door vs. you going out and fighting for them.
As more and more folks acquire smart phone devices and become more comfortable with making online purchases, it puts daily deal sites, eCommerce sites, and marketers in a very solid position to see increased revenues. Continued effort into your mobile development and making things as secure and easy to use as possible will only further help.
