Work Less – Make More – and Underdo Your Competition

Back when Facebook launched there were always these groups that were popping up that were basically like this…

If 1 million people join this group – I will _____________________.

Just about every single time the numbers would grow like wildfire for these groups, and someone would end up shaving their head, donating money to a charity, or breaking up with their girlfriend.

Where are you going with this?

Stay with me… it will get good.

That was essentially the core beginning of regular people using collective power in social media to accomplish something.

Since Groupon popularized this concept and combined it with ecommerce, there have been hundreds of successful daily deal and group buying websites that have launched. This is in large part because we have made the barrier to entry in this ridiculously lucrative venture extremely easy.

Most of these sites have deals running every single day. Now, getting these deals is not that hard because local merchants and any product owner for that matter is typically always looking for new customers and great risk-free ways to advertise their business…

Collective buying power gives you that ability.

Once you hit the threshold you do not even have to contact any local businesses or product owners as they will actually start to reach out to you.

Now here is where you can think outside the box a little bit…

You do not always have to follow the norm.

Imagine taking the idea below instead and working far less. Not only is Workaholism unnecessary, it is also stupid. Working more does not mean you get more done. It just means you work more.

On to the idea…

Imagine you start your daily deal group buying site and focus on 1 deal. Not one deal a day, a week, or even a month.

Just one deal.

Make your minimum number of purchases required VERY high – start a Facebook group similar to the one at the beginning of this email and watch your numbers grow.

Your group would be more like…

If 1 million people buy ___________ for this ____ discount – You will get it. If not – your card will not be charged and better luck next time. Now go tell your friends.

If you wanted you could put a time limit on it – maybe a couple weeks, maybe a month.

Sometimes underdoing your competition will yield you the best results.

Just about any local merchant or product owner would be thrilled to be involved in a viral publicity stunt like I described above. They probably would not mind selling a boat load of their products or services too if threshold is hit.

Just a bright idea I wanted to throw your way.
