Unlikely Joint Ventures from Ad Tech, NY

Ad:tech speaker
Pete Blackshaw, Global
Head of Digital & Social Media at Nestlé, speaking at Ad:tech 2013, NYC.

Just arrived home from the Ad:tech conference in New York City…

NYC is a crazy city. It definitely makes me appreciate living by the beach in Charleston, SC.  Though I was only there for the ad:tech conference for 2 days, it felt like I was there for an entire week.

The conference had a couple thousand folks and some serious big time speakers where I gained a lot of great new knowledge, connected with some influential people, and will be making deals from the event…

One of my favorite take-a-ways was from listening to Pete Blackshaw, Global Head of Digital & Social Media at Nestlé.

Pete discussed many of their various joint ventures and the results that have occurred because of them.

Each of their various brands partner up with very unlikely companies to mutually benefit each other…

KitKat and Android recently partnered to launch the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system. The buzz immediately became the top trending item on Twitter and lasted that way for nearly a full day. There is a positive correlation between the huge social reach and revenue generated as a result from the joint venture.

Who is an unlikely company that you could partner up with?

Spend a little time and think about that.  More often than not, a joint venture will mutually benefit both companies and increase sales and exposure in ways that would not be possible otherwise.

Google Android and KitKat are two completely unrelated businesses, yet they were able to leverage each other in unique ways and both experience solid results.

All in all, it was a superb learning experience for me. I believe it’s important to get offline and meet people face to face in life. The value of sitting down with someone and sharing a real life conversation outweighs any LinkedIn or social media connection that you would do online…
