Cliff Notes For Flipping A Website

Flipping websites can be an extremely lucrative activity to make money online.  Before selling any domain name, I recommend to have some content on it, search engine optimize it, and build up a few quality backlinks.

How to Flip your site on Flippa.com
How to Flip your site on Flippa.com

Here are my cliff notes for flipping a website…

What’s your reason for wanting to sell your website?

Be very clear about this up front.  Buyers of websites will be curious why you want to sell your website.  Maybe you don’t have enough time to spend on the website, maybe you are a serial entrepreneur and ready to move on, maybe you are too busy with your family, etc… Prepare this response in advance.  Honesty is the best route.

Don’t just list your site on Flippayou actually have to sell it.

Most people simply list their websites on Flippa and expect the buyers to jump at them.  You need to open the eyes of the blind potential buyers and actually sell! You can use ebay to flip your site also.

Make your Site Look Good before listing it for sale.

This isn’t about completely revamping and changing your site, but rather putting on a bit of makeup and graphic design here and there…

What are your site’s big selling points?

List out the top 5-10 reasons why owning your website would be a great idea for a potential buyer.

Make Your Site Look As Profitable As Possible.

Pull average revenue from best 3, 6, or 9 months.

Add Google Analytics and/or other traffic tracking software

Add Google Analytics on all your websites so you can show traffic stats easily to potential buyers.  This is a good habit to get into regardless of whether or not your end result goal is to flip your website.

Know your traffic

Interested buyers will want to know everything about your traffic.

  • How much you’re getting?
  • How much is unique?
  • How much is paid traffic?
  • How much is free?
  • Where it comes from?
  • What are the demographics of your visitors, etc…

Google analytics should be able to tell you most of this information.

Authoritative backlinks

Look for any authoritative backlinks you might have and if you don’t have any – try and get a few.

404 Errors and Broken Links

Be sure that your website does not have any 404 errors or broken links on your website.

Using video to sell your site is a great idea

You can make your auction much more credible if you add a video on your flippa listing.

Listing Headline

Have a catchy headline and to make your auction appear popular.  Think of this like you are writing a headline for a product launch or sales copy.  Make it stand out and appeal to your potential buyers to click and investigate further.  Spend some time on figuring out your headline.  Don’t be afraid to crowdsource this also.

Start your auction at $1, with no reserve

This is just an option you can do –  not some gold standard you must follow...  If you do this – you will probably want to be sure to drive traffic to your listing from your list or from paid traffic so you ensure that your listing starts to receive a lot of bids.  Listings that have a lot of bids are listed very high on Flippa.

Limit the duration of the auction

Limit the duration of the auction for somewhere between 5 days – 2 weeks.  Urgency is a critical factor when you are selling anything.  Our DailyDealBuilder group buying and daily deal platform incorporates urgency into the selling process and our clients see extremely high conversion rates.

Brief overview of what you need to list out:

  • A brief overview of the site, including key selling points.
  • Why I’m selling – A more detailed overview of the site, how it works, where it gets the revenue from, etc.
  • Exactly what the winning bidder receives
  • Contact details
  • The “Why you can trust me” line.  Be sure to link and give out your facebook and linkedin profile so that buyers can check up on you.

Silent strategy

When you go to bed, let your bids build up without approving them until the morning.

Happy Selling!

Keep coming with the quality stuff. I have paid good money for courses that take hours upon hours to go through that basically say this information. Well done on this. Easy and quick to read – but very knowledgable. I have attempted to flip one of my websites about 3 months ago but didn’t get any bids that really made sense.

There’s clearly so much to find out about this. I think you made some good factors in Options also.

Simply wanna remark that you have a very nice web site , I love the design it really stands out.

The next time I read a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I mean, I know it was my choice to read, but I actually thought youd have something interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you could fix if you werent too busy looking for attention.

What are you talking about? Whining? Oh wait – this is probably a bot that posted this. Thanks for the SPAM.
